EFT Core Skills Training
Core Skills Training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples
The EFT Core Skills Training focuses on the development and refinement of the core skills of the EFT approach. It is the second step in EFT training, designed to follow a four-day externship. This four to five months training experience involves four 12-hour sessions scheduled four to five weeks apart. Each session is designed for a small group of participants (8 – 15) to explore and refine the primary skills used in the EFT model. Each session will include practical instruction, experiential exercises, video examples, and case consultation. Those who complete the four-session Core Skills Training will be credited with 48 hours of EFT consultation and will satisfy the Core Skills requirement for Certification as an EFT Therapist. Training occurs on the following levels:
- Instruction and review of the EFT model.
- Demonstration of skills through video recording, role play and/or live session.
- Practice of skills through exercises and role plays
- Individual feedback on EFT skills development through case presentations.
- Discussion of cases as relevant to the content material of the workshop.

Los Angeles Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy (LACEFT) is fully committed to conducting all activities in strict conformance with the American Psychological Association's Ethical Principles of Psychologists. LACEFT will comply with all legal and ethical responsibilities to be non-discriminatory in promotional activities, program content and in the treatment of program participants. The monitoring and assessment of compliance with these standards will be the responsibility of the Education Chair in consultation with the members of the program committee, the LACEFT Board of Directors.
While LACEFT goes to great lengths to assure fair treatment for all participants and attempts to anticipate problems, there will be occasional issues which come to the attention of the board of directors which require intervention and/or action on the part of the program committee or an officer of LACEFT. This procedural description serves as a guideline for handling such grievances.
When a participant, either orally or in written format, files a grievance and expects action on the complaint, the following actions will be taken.
1. If the grievance concerns a speaker, the content presented by the speaker, or the style of presentation, the individual filing the grievance will be asked to put his/her comments in written format. The program chair will then pass on the comments to the speaker, assuring the confidentiality of the grieved individual.
2. If the grievance concerns a workshop offering, its content, level of presentation, or the facilities in which the workshop was offered, the program chair will mediate and will be the final arbitrator. If the participant requests action, the program chair will:
a. attempt to move the participant to another core skills workshop or
b. provide a credit for a subsequent year's workshop or
c. provide a partial or full refund of the workshop fee.
Actions 2b and 2c will require a written note, documenting the grievance, for record keeping purposes. The note need not be signed by the grieved individual.
3. If the grievance concerns LACEFT’s program, in a specific regard, the program chair will attempt to arbitrate.
Please Contact LACEFT President, Kristina Jackson at [email protected] with any grievances
